Project Description
This publication emerged from the Methods of Iterating brief, in which I explored the scanning limits of photocopiers to test the extent of object visual recognition. Rather than working with a physical machine, I employed digital methods to systematically degrade image quality as a means of investigating the extremities of pixelation inherent to digital design tools. The process is documented across five consecutive stages: (1) image sent through a chat channel, (2) blur and unsharp mask, (3) scaling up and down, (4) resolution reduction, and (5) colour channel offset. Each stage applied a different digital method to the output of the last, and progressively degraded the image until it reaches an ultimate state of visual breakdown.
